The Effectiveness of Exercise as a Treatment for Depression in People with MS

Investigators: Charles Bombardier, PhD and Dawn Ehde, PhD

The purpose of this study was to promote exercise among people with MS and depression through telephone-based motivational interviewing. Many people with MS are eager to engage in activities that may improve their health.

The study examined whether brief face-to-face and telephone-based motivational interviewing is an effective way to help people with MS make lifestyle changes to improve their overall health. This was a randomized controlled trial. Data from the study was also used to explore depression screening measures and use of antidepressants in the study sample.

This study is complete and the study investigators are currently in the process of writing up the results.
