Needs Assessment of the Greater Northwest Chapter of the National MS Society

Kurt Johnson, PhD, Dagmar Amtmann, PhD, Aimee Verrall, MPH, Virginia Weir, MPH

The MSRRTC collaborated with the Greater Northwest Chapter of the National MS Society to conduct a needs assessment of their members. The Greater Northwest Chapter recently expanded their coverage of Western Washington to include Montana and Alaska. The goal of the needs assessment was to find out about what members (people living with MS) need and want for programs and services provided by the local chapter of the National MS Society.

  1. Focus Groups - we conducted a series of focus groups both in-person and over the phone to discuss the local chapter's program and services. The groups discussed what they needed in terms of programs and services offered by the local chapter of their National MS Society.
  2. Needs Survey - We developed a survey from a template that was developed by the National MS Society and revised per the information we learned from focus group participants and included standard measures the MSRRTC uses for secondary conditions (fatigue, depression, etc.). We surveyed 440 members of the National MS Society living in Washington, Montana, and Alaska.

The enrollment for this study is closed. This study is completed and data is being analyzed.
