Current Research Projects

Project 2: Improved Self-Management Rehabilitation Interventions

The project evaluates the effectiveness of a telephone-delivered self-management intervention for reducing the impact of secondary conditions, including chronic pain, fatigue, depression, and cognitive impairment in persons with MS.

These secondary conditions are not always readily apparent, although the majority of persons with MS experience one or more of them. They constitute what has been described by our RRTC as "hidden disabilities." Secondary conditions frequently not only cause distress in their own right, but also affect employment, participation, and quality of life.

If the effects of these conditions are reduced, we expect study participants to demonstrate improved participation in the community and improved employment outcomes.
